Rotten Eggs

Friday, September 29, 2006

I was shocked last night to find my little 16 day old baby fartin' rotten eggs! How could this be? All she drinks is breastmilk. We were watching Grey's Anatomy last night when all of a sudden the room began to smell like the sulfuric pools at Yosemite. Maybe it's all the hummus I've been eating lately. I'm going to ditch the hummus from today's diet and see if she is less gassy. She gets very gassy at night and when she's gassy she gets a little fussy. Other than that she is a sweet and quiet baby.

I can't help but crack up all the time I hear this precious little thing tooting. I have a tootin' baby...just like daddy =)

I'm trying to get Isabella used to her crib for afternoon naps. And so far she is doing well in her crib. We call her a little houdini because she always manages to get her little hands out of her blanket. Of course my camera battery died so I had to capture her with my cellphone.

House Arrest

Saturday, September 23, 2006

I have been home 11 days now since delivering Isabella and I'm beginning to feel a little stir crazy and clausterphobic. Isabella have been outside taking morning walks after breakfast, but I still feel bored at home. I know all this will change in a few weeks when she becomes more active and making her own schedule. I know that I should just take advantage and relax, but I'm so impatient.

On her development
Everyday she works on holding her head up. Her little neck is building muscles. It looks like it will happen soon. She is growing by the day; she is such a good little feeder - that's definitely a Chunger trait. She's alert more and more throughout the day, but still sleeping every chance she can get.

Bye-Bye Umbilical Cord

Friday, September 22, 2006

Izzy's umbilical cord has been getting looser and looser hanging on by one little piece. We've been using rubbing alcohol trying to dry it out to speed up the process. After Thursday mornings feeding, Ed came in to change her diaper. The next thing I hear is Ed say "oh no!" in a panicked voice. I look up and there is Ed standing with Izzy's umbilical cord in his hand. In an effort to pull up the diaper he looked away and accidentally pulled on Izzy's cord instead. Don't freak out. It didn't hurt her. She was fine as if nothing had happened. Later that day it started to bleed a little. Today it looks fine. The scab has gone and I think she is near ready for her first bath in the tub.

And no, we are not going to be saving her umbilical cord. It went in the trash along with all her poopy diapers.

First doctor's visit

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Isabella is one week old. We took her to her first vist with her pediatrician. We were told that she is absolutely normal. She now weighs 6 lbs. 13 oz. She was 6 lbs. 8 oz. when she was discharged from the hospital on Thursday. That's five ounces in five days. She has been feeding great and it shows. For a while we were concerned that she wouldn't put any weight on with the number of poopy diapers and "blow outs" she's had. Her cheeks are starting to fill in and has that "come and pinch me" look. Grandma Chung calls her a "peach" and she really is. Look at her adorable cheeks. Well, Ed and I are off to take her for a walk with "Baba."

Feeding time

Monday, September 18, 2006

The best part of feeding time is when I put Isabella on my shoulder to burp. She leans her head towards mine and makes the cutest faces and sounds. It makes my heart melt everytime. I need to capture it on video to preserve this moment forever.

Family tidings

Sunday, September 17, 2006

This weekend we had family over to visit Izzy. Saturday, she was greeted by Auntie Ann and grandma Chung, grandpa Chung and grandma, aka "Baba", Kremer. Baba will be staying with us for two weeks helping us new parents get adjusted. I could use the extra zzz's.

On Sunday, Merah and Jack came over to meet Izzy for the first time. Jack is Izzy's eight year old cousin. On the way over, he told Merah that he was going to teach Izzy how to play baseball. He was so cute with Izzy. He kepting asking to hold her, push her stroller and gave her tons of kisses. He even asked Merah for a baby brother or sister...she had fun addressing that one.

We took Isabella for her first walk outdoors. We walked along the bluff in San Clemente. Merah took some of the cutest pictures.

Halfway through the walk Jack sat down in any shady areas to rest. And he's the youngest and most fit of us all.

The Baby's Room is complete

Saturday, September 16, 2006

Today is our 6th wedding anniversary and what better gift than bringing little Isabella into the world. This morning, we had flowers painted onto the wall of Isabella's bedroom. The room is officially complete and we are so pleased with how it turned out. The pink and green surf inspired room is perfect for our little Izzy.

The day has arrived!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

All weekend I was experiencing contractions that seem to grow stronger by the day. Around four in the morning, I started to have very strong cramps. So strong that I began using the breathing exercises I had learned at the childbirth classes. The contractions were growing stronger and closer together. By 6am, Ed had gotten out of bed to take a shower and get ready for work. I wake up and begin to time my contractions. They were 5 minutes apart and lasting about 30 seconds. I couldn't tell if they were Braxton Hicks contractions or not, but they were definitely stronger than any other contractions I had felt. I didn't know how to tell Ed that the baby might be on her way without freaking him out. I begin to finish packing my bag for the hospital just in case. Ed got out of the shower and I tell him that I think the baby may come today. He couldn't believe me. I didn't want to go to the hospital just to find out that it was false labor. So, I tell Ed that we'll go to work and if they get stronger than we'll go to the hospital.

On the way to the work, I'm timing the contractions. They are ranging from 4-5 minutes apart and lasting around 45 seconds. Ed, seeing them closely, for the first time is now urging me to call the doctor. So I did. The doctor tells me to check into the hospital because it sounds like she is ready. Being that I was only 37 weeks, I wasn't prepared to leave work so soon. I convince Ed to take me to work to collect some of my things and to make arrangements with my team.

It's around 9:30am when I checked into the hospital. My neighbor, Anne, is the charge nurse on the labor and delivery floor and happen to be working this morning. My nurse checks my cervix and I am now 3cm dialated and I learned that my water had broken last night. I am hooked up to the fetal monitor and can see the strength of my contractions. They are growing even stronger and I decide to get my epidural now before it's too late. At 11am, I dialate to 4cm. By noon, I am now 7cm. I realize that this baby is coming soon. Five minutes after the last internal exam, my cervix dialates to 8 cm. By 2:30pm I am now fully dialated and ready to push. I was amazed at the process. My contractions are now 1-2 minutes apart. And with each contraction the nurse asks me to push. After they pass, she lets go of my leg and I resume talking to her and Ed. Then another contraction comes along and I push. It was so casual. Meanwhile, Ed looks very nervous, not really knowing what to do. After 40 minutes of pushing, baby Isabella was born.
